About Kelseys Sports Horses

We bought Annie in April 2021. Her owner was unable to look after her any more and we were very happy to give her a permanent home. She is a beautiful mare who has had a difficult start in her early life, before her previous owner rescued her. She is by the great eventing and showjumping sire OBOS Quality 004 who competed at Grand Prix and Nations Cup showjumping. His offspring include showjumping Olympian Castlefield Eclipse and Nations Cup mare Lisona. In eventing his progeny are renowned for massive paces and being super brave. They include Pippa Funnell's MGH Grafton Street and Piggy March's Brookfield Quality, with numerous others also.
Annie's dam is by the great thoroughbred Mister Lord who has produced top event horses worldwide. Annie has enough TB blood (65%) to breed some super eventers and show jumpers.  We haven't seen her jump, but know she can clear at least 1.2m over an electric fence without touching it!
Her foals are Bobby (by the connemara Glencarrig Tempest) and Ziggy (by the prolific showjumping sire and Nations Cup winner, Billy Congo). She is having a break in 2024.

Archie has 3 fabulous paces and huge scope over a jump. he also has a affable temperament and is very trainable. We still have a couple of shares in Archie available. 2024 will be very exciting!

We had a really wonderful and educational day when Sports Horse Breeding GB came to assess our broodmares and the 2023 foals. All of our broodmares were graded into the Main Stud Book and Future Dark Art (Holly) was awarded Head Stud Book status! Further Holly's 2023 foal that is by Chacco Bay (Mae - Kelseys Cover Girl)  and Annie's foal by Billy Congo (Ziggy - Kelseys Red Kite) were awarded premium grade. The whole day was so interesting and the informative judges gave us great confidence in our breeding programme and inspired us for the future!!1

Annie gave birth to a super colt this evening at a very civilised time of twenty past 8! This very correct and compact colt is by Billy Congo, we are very excited.

Annie has foaled!

We are very excited to announce we have a successful embryo transfer from Wilma, by the exciting young stallion, Chacco Bay. Ruby is carrying this precious package and we know she will make a wonderful Mum! Both parents have a kind and willing attitude to work and bucket loads of talent. What an exciting baby expected in 2024.

Ruby is a talented young mare who has shown her abilities in dressage and showjumping. However she was not happy going off the yard and lost her confidence. So we have given her a new job as a recipient mare, which she has definitely taken to!  Ruby is carrying a very precious package for 2024, an embryo taken from Wilma (Kelseys Skylark) by the exciting young showjumping stallion, Chacco Bay.

Traditional Irish Sports Horse by Jackaroo (full brother to Zara Tindall's 2012 Olympic and WEG horse, High Kingdom) and Karen O' Connor's 2008 Olympic horse, Mandiba), out of a Clover Brigade mare with Sadlers Wells also in the mix. She is 88% thoroughbred and appears to be very willing, trainable and has a wonderful temperament.

Teddy was such a good 5 year old at Frickley scoring our best ever dressage score of 75% for a 25.0 in the BE100!

Teddy is an exceptionally well balanced 5 year old with 3 correct superb paces and an impressive jump, his lovely trainable temperament is something that will take him to the top. His breeding cries out "top event horse",  with 3 legendary eventing sires in his blood, Grafenstolz, Heraldik and Welton Crackerjack.

Teddy was entered into the British Futurity eventing section in 2020 and came 3rd nationally in the 2 year old section. He has a very exciting future ahead of him. He is being produced for sale by Richard and we would love to find some syndicate owners for him so he can stay here!

Our best dressage score to date!

We had a great time at Aston-Le-Walls on Thursday for Wilma's 2nd Intermediate event. A much improved dressage with a score of 32.3 was followed by a huge, technical showjumping round. Whilst the lessons with Di are definitely paying off, two mistakes by horse and rider gave two poles down. However there were also very few clear rounds across the sections! The cross country course was also huge and Richard ensured Wilma had an educational and safe clear round. All topped of with a lovely picnic with Smoked Salmon and cream cheese, and cheese and tomato sandwiches on homemade bread!
