About Kelseys Sports Horses

Thistle has been with us since she was a 2 year old and has been a proper family horse, ridden by all the family, and has competed up to BE100 before an injury ended her career as a sports horse. She is a tough little horse and a brilliant broodmare, with lovely expressive paces. Her breeding for producing eventers is impeccable being by Bazaars Exclusive (Ex-Welton Crackerjack) who is sire of B Exclusive, Lizzie Baugh's 4* home bred and numerous other eventers, all with superb trainability. Her dam is by the legendary Primitive Rising, he also has produced eventers competing with both amateurs and professionals. She is the dam of Louis (2021) and Cilla (2023), in whom we combine Welton Crackerjack, Primitive Rising, Skippy and Sea Crest! For 2024 she is in foal to the award-winning sire, Sylvester, who is renowned for passing his multi-talents on to his progeny. Exciting!!

Kelseys Thistle (Thistle)

We are very excited about our broodmare, Holly. She has produced 3 stunning, quality foals, all with a trainable and kind temperament (Archie, Mavis and Mabille). She passes on floating paces combined with a natural ability to jump and is descended from some of the best thoroughbred lines in the world. In 2023, she has had a proper supermodel, Mae, by Chacco Bay, born on the day Tina Turner died. She is having a break in 2024.

Future Dark Art (Holly)

Alice is a broodmare. She is a super stamp of a horse, “leg at each corner”, correct conformation and a tough constitution, but with enough blood and kind temperament is an excellent broodmare. She has had 3 foals with us, all by LePrince des Bois (Freddie, Flynn and Felix). These boys are all proving to be trainable and have a kind, willing temperament. Alice in foal for 2024 to the promising young stallion, Jacondrik. He combines the blood lines of Jaguar Mail, Contendro and Heraldik and together with Alice's lines of Mill Law and Coever's Diamond Boy, the foal should be a top prospect!

We are so pleased to welcome Helen as an owner of our exciting rising 5 Year old Archie (Future Dark Pleasure). Archie has 3 fabulous paces and huge scope over a jump. he also has a affable temperament and is very trainable. We still have a couple of shares in Archie available. 2024 will be very exciting!

We had a really wonderful and educational day when Sports Horse Breeding GB came to assess our broodmares and the 2023 foals. All of our broodmares were graded into the Main Stud Book and Future Dark Art (Holly) was awarded Head Stud Book status! Further Holly's 2023 foal that is by Chacco Bay (Mae - Kelseys Cover Girl)  and Annie's foal by Billy Congo (Ziggy - Kelseys Red Kite) were awarded premium grade. The whole day was so interesting and the informative judges gave us great confidence in our breeding programme and inspired us for the future!!1

We are delighted to announce we have two successful heartbeat scans and one successful embryo scan.

Yesterday morning our vets came to scan Holly (Future Dark Art),  Thistle (Kelseys Thistle) and Alice (Wonderland Alice). Holly is in foal to the showjumping superstar Copain Du Perchet, who combined with Holly's dressage father (Painted Row) and her high(94%) thoroughbred blood should make for a future eventing star foal with nearly 70% blood. 
Thistle (Bazaars Exclusive(Welton Crackerjack) x Primitive Rising) is in foal to the veteran producers of top horses in all fields, Silvester. The foal again will have a high % of blood 57%, and should combine movement, jump, athletic ability and stamina.
Alice was scanned in foal to the young stallion Jacondrik. This foal will combine the bloodlines of eventing greats, Jaguar Mail, Contendro, Heraldik, Mill Law and Coevers Diamond Boy. Again a high blood % of 60%, a very exciting prospect for the future.

We are very excited to announce we have a successful embryo transfer from Wilma, by the exciting young stallion, Chacco Bay. Ruby is carrying this precious package and we know she will make a wonderful Mum! Both parents have a kind and willing attitude to work and bucket loads of talent. What an exciting baby expected in 2024.

Ruby is a talented young mare who has shown her abilities in dressage and showjumping. However she was not happy going off the yard and lost her confidence. So we have given her a new job as a recipient mare, which she has definitely taken to!  Ruby is carrying a very precious package for 2024, an embryo taken from Wilma (Kelseys Skylark) by the exciting young showjumping stallion, Chacco Bay.

Traditional Irish Sports Horse by Jackaroo (full brother to Zara Tindall's 2012 Olympic and WEG horse, High Kingdom) and Karen O' Connor's 2008 Olympic horse, Mandiba), out of a Clover Brigade mare with Sadlers Wells also in the mix. She is 88% thoroughbred and appears to be very willing, trainable and has a wonderful temperament.

Teddy was such a good 5 year old at Frickley scoring our best ever dressage score of 75% for a 25.0 in the BE100!

Teddy is an exceptionally well balanced 5 year old with 3 correct superb paces and an impressive jump, his lovely trainable temperament is something that will take him to the top. His breeding cries out "top event horse",  with 3 legendary eventing sires in his blood, Grafenstolz, Heraldik and Welton Crackerjack.

Teddy was entered into the British Futurity eventing section in 2020 and came 3rd nationally in the 2 year old section. He has a very exciting future ahead of him. He is being produced for sale by Richard and we would love to find some syndicate owners for him so he can stay here!

Our best dressage score to date!

We had a great time at Aston-Le-Walls on Thursday for Wilma's 2nd Intermediate event. A much improved dressage with a score of 32.3 was followed by a huge, technical showjumping round. Whilst the lessons with Di are definitely paying off, two mistakes by horse and rider gave two poles down. However there were also very few clear rounds across the sections! The cross country course was also huge and Richard ensured Wilma had an educational and safe clear round. All topped of with a lovely picnic with Smoked Salmon and cream cheese, and cheese and tomato sandwiches on homemade bread!
